THEME 2025

TH/NGS 2025:

RESIZE < REMIX < REGEN

This year TH/NGS 2025 invites makers, designers, and thinkers to explore a different path forward. This year, we inspire the community to reimagine our relationship with technology through: Resize, Remix, and Regenerate.

RESIZE calls us to think small and local again. What happens when we prioritize community-centered making over global mass production? When we build technologies that are more personal, durable, and controllable? Resize invites us to create things with smaller footprints but longer lives, shifting from Big Tech’s constant chase of “tomorrow” to small things that endure and evolve with us.

REMIX embraces the abundance of what already exists in both physical and digital realms.  Remix prioritizes reuse over extraction, repair over disposal, and collaboration over consumption. What forms of epistemic reuse, affective attunement, and aesthetic sensitivity might guide such practices? And what prototyping might embrace and refigure planetary excesses to help us reimagine and redesign what already exists? It prompts us to reflect on how design might engage with reproduction rather than production, with situated transformation rather than disruptive change.

REGEN pushes us beyond sustainability toward regeneration. Rather than merely reducing harm, how might we design things that actively restore ecosystems and revitalize communities? Regenerative design adopts a relational, more-than-human perspective that fosters ecological and cultural renewal, drawing inspiration from diverse knowledge systems including Indigenous methodologies and multispecies design approaches.

Join us at THINGS 2025 as we explore these concepts through the lens of “playful responsibility” – finding the sweet spot where critical, ethical considerations meet the joy of creation. Together, we’ll discover how responsible things can be developed with the right vibe – one that respects local knowledge, embraces more-than-human ecologies, and returns agency to communities.

Let’s resize, remix, and regenerate the future of things.
